Brentwood Home Page staff reports Milestones in 2011 were many. Let’s take a look back at a few of them:
Baptist Children’s Home turns 100
When the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home moved to Brentwood 100 years ago, there wasn’t a Brentwood yet, since the city was founded 58 years later. It was actually called the Franklin campus because it was located between Nashville and Franklin, and it had been a working farm of Maj. A.J. Cheek from the family that owned Cheekwood. Click here
Barber Bobby Rutledge celebrates 55 years of cutting hair
Bobby Rutledge has seen 55 years’ worth of hair styles sit in his barber chair. He can do flattops, he can do spikes. He says the Beatles invasion in the ‘60s probably influenced men’s hair more than any other era since he followed his older brother into the business in 1957. Click here.
Brentwood Middle School turns 40
It was a wonderful walk down memory for past teachers and students who reunited Friday for the 40th anniversary of Northside Junior High / Brentwood Middle School on Oct. 7. The day started with a breakfast and tour of the school led by the BMS student government leaders with many of the original Northside faculty attending. Click here
Puffy Muffin turns 25
Upon stepping into the Puffy Muffin restaurant, the smell of homemade baked rolls, cakes and cookies permeates the air. There’s also an air of excellence. Although food is important; the Puffy Muffin is more than just a restaurant. The restaurant’s success over the past 25 years is a reflection of founder and CEO Lynda Stone’s dedication to ethics and excellence in the workplace and life. Click here.
Brentwood Fire Department turns 25
As the Brentwood Fire and Rescue Department reaches its quarter-century mark, it is celebrating its growth from a “subscription-based,” one-station facility to the flourishing professional operation with four fully equipped stations it is today. Click here.
Mike Glenn celebrates 20 years at Brentwood Baptist
Mike Glenn says he's pastored probably "three or four different churches" in his 20 years shepherding the Brentwood Baptist Church congregation as its senior pastor. When he arrived, things were done more informally than they are these days at the church which grew from a building on Franklin Road to a sprawling campus with multiple buildings on Concord Road at Interstate-65.
