Brentwood Home Page sports reports Brentwood junior Paul Stuart won the Williamson County Championship Meet in cross country and paced the Bruins to the team title, while Ravenwood captured the girls crown.
"This is the strongest and deepest team we’ve ever had," RHS Coach Peter Mueller said about his girls squad, "and we’re excited about the possibilities for us as we compete at the regional and state championships."

RHS junior Conley Chitwood (15:41.08) was only 10 seconds behind Stuart (15:31.77) Wednesday at the Harlinsdale Farm course, which measured a little short of 5K at 3.065 miles/4.933 km. Chitwood's adjusted time for 3.1 miles was 15:54.
BHS also placed runners in 4th, junior Nathan Thomas (15:49.05); 5th, senior Ryan Gadsey (15:54.31); 7th, freshman Alec Thomas (16:17.38); and 11th, freshman Aaron Thomas (16:35.72). Alec and Aaron are the younger twin brothers of Nathan.
Chitwood was the only runner from a school other than BHS or Independence to finish in the top 12. Raptors freshmen Quinn Avirom and Justin Karl finished 13th and 17th, respectively, while junior Daniel Lowe was 19th.
"I can’t emphasize enough how proud I am of the way the whole team ran, starting with Conley," Mueller said. "He pushed the pace from the gun, and even though he couldn’t hold off Paul Stuart over the last half mile, he still became the first Raptor to break 16 minutes."
Brentwood (28 points) outdistanced Independence by eight, and the Raptors were a distant third with 70. Only the lowest five scores are counted for each team.
"Six of our top seven ran PRs so it was great day top to bottom," the RHS coach said. "While you always want to win, there’s no shame coming in behind Brentwood and Independence, two of the best boys teams in the state."
Sophomore Ben Mason had the top time for Brentwood Academy at 18:57.25. The Eagles, who fielded only their junior varsity teams due to a weekend meet, ran only 9th- and 10th-graders in the boys race.
BHS freshman 2nd in girls race
In the girls race, Brentwood freshman Elizabeth Scott (18:48.70) came in second behind Franklin junior Rachel Wooten (18:26.81).
Senior Allie Arnette (19:22.44) and junior Erika Peoples (19:26.08) finished 3-4 to lead Ravenwood to the county championship. Rachel Spinden (19:47.41) clocked in 7th, just ahead of BHS senior Avery Lipman (19:51.89), and 10th-grader Dabney Chitwood 20:07.14 and freshman Abby Finnegan (20:20.94) were 9-10.
"I am very proud of how well they ran," Mueller said. "Three of our top five have been nursing injuries so it was really inspiring to see us put five in the top eleven for the win. Our 1-5 split was 59 seconds, which is the smallest it’s been in my three years at RHS."
Arnette has finished first for the Lady Raptors in their past two meets. "It’s good to see her at her best as she completes her cross country career," Mueller said.
RHS sophomores Peyton Reynolds and Eleanor Leffler were 13th and 16th.
Junior Katherine Schenck wound up 14th for the Lady Bruins, who finished third, and classmate Anne Ramsey made the top 20.
Junior Courtney Fadler was BA's top runner at 22:01.50.
Brentwood Academy's Division II teams run in the Midstate Conference meet at Sharp Springs in Smyrna next Wednesday, Oct. 20, and the state championships on Nov. 6.
Brentwood and Ravenwood will compete in the Division I Region 6-AAA championships on Oct. 28 at the Steeplechase course in Nashville's Percy Warner Park, with hopes of returning for the Nov. 6 state meet.
