Brentwood Home Page news reports Brentwood High School moved its football players indoors during the first day of preseason practice Monday afternoon/evening due to excessive heat and rescheduled Tuesday's practice to early this morning.
A National Weather Service heat advisory for dangerous hot and humid conditions remains in effect for Williamson and Middle Tennessee until 7 p.m. Tuesday. A strong high pressure aloft will send the heat index into the 105- to 112-degree range, representing "a direct threat to the health and well-being of area residents."
The BHS soccer and cross country practices for this week also will be held at night or early morning, depending on what the coaches schedule, athletic director Ronnie Seigenthaler said.
"We do not take this lightly," Seigenthaler said. "We will always follow the policy in regards to the heat index."
Ravenwood and Brentwood Academy had already scheduled early-morning football practices Monday, when TSSAA high school football teams could begin practice in shorts and T-shirts. Practice with pads isn't allowed until Aug. 1.
