Dr. John Tharp has been named the new Assistant Superintendent of Middle and High Schools for Williamson County Schools. Tharp will join the district on Monday, Sept. 27, replacing Dr. Jubal Yennie who took a Superintendent’s position in Sullivan County.

“John is a top-notch educator,” said Chief Academic Officer Dr. David Heath. “He has continued to participate in numerous professional growth opportunities over the years, and that, coupled with his experience in the field, made him a great fit for Williamson County.”

Tharp began his career in education in 1993 as a high school social studies teacher in North Carolina. After teaching for nine years, he served as an assistant principal for four years in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Durham Public Schools. Since 2006 he has been the principal of Eastside High School in Greenville County Schools in South Carolina

“My family and I are very excited about our move to Williamson County,” said Tharp. “I eagerly anticipate working with Dr. Looney and the WCS team to continue the tradition of academic excellence in the district.”

Tharp earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Illinois Wesleyan University; a master’s in curriculum and instruction from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
