Brentwood High junior Holly Van Grinsven outdueled FRA's Abbie McKinney, a Brentwood resident, in both hurdle races.

Brentwood High senior Steve Wade shattered a 10-year-old meet record in the discus throw and also won the shot put at the Great 8 High School Invitational at Vanderbilt University on Tuesday.

Junior Holly Van Grinsven also was a double winner for BHS, taking both the girls' 100- and 300-meter hurdle races. She also finished third in the 100-meter dash.

Lady Bruins senior Kelly Bickle (400 meters) and Brentwood Academy senior Josh Davies (300 hurdles) notched victories at the track and field meet as well. Bickle took third in the girls 200, while Davies finished third in the boys high jump and fifth in the 110 hurdles.

Wade, an East Tennessee State signee, launched the discus 172 feet to break the 2001 mark of 163 feet, 11.75 inches, set by Franklin's Derek Simmons. Wade's throw was 17-9 farther than runner-up Aaron Staten of LaVergne, while Ravenwood's Cameron Brown placed third.

The winning shot put by Wade was 57 feet, 2 inches.

Ravenwood had runner-up finishes from Allie Arnette (800 meters) and Erika Peoples (1600).

Amber Sudzius was third in the discus throw for BHS.

In both hurdle events, Grinsven beat out Brentwood resident Abbie McKinney of Franklin Road Academy. McKinnie was also third in the high jump.

On the boys side, Brentwood High's Paul Stuart was second behind Kris Howard of Independence in the 1600.

Bruins sophomore Eric Hoff also was runner-up in the pole vault, while teammate Jake Lazas was third in the long jump.
