Brentwood Home Page news reports Brentwood High, Ravenwood High and Brentwood Academy volleyball teams have jumped into district/region play, with the next couple of weeks making a big difference in how their seasons will turn out.
The Lady Raptors and Lady Bruins are in the thick of the District 11-AAA race as expected, with next week's first Battle of the Woods of the season looming. RHS will play at rival BHS at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 -- a day before the two schools meet in football.
Brentwood Academy, meanwhile, has a grueling schedule this week with four matches in Division II-AA East/Middle Region action.
Here's a look at the three teams' recent matches and upcoming schedule:
Ravenwood High
Class AAA defending state champion Ravenwood is 8-4, 2-0 in District 11-AAA and hasn't lost to a Tennessee team yet.
The Lady Raptors take on non-district foe Siegel at home at 6 p.m. today before visiting Centennial in a big 11-AAA match at 6 p.m. Thursday. Ravenwood then faces two tough tests against district contenders Independence at home at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, and Brentwood at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15.
RHS shut out Hillsboro (25-7, 25-7, 25-15) and Franklin (25-14, 25-12, 25-12) in 3-0 victories last week to open district play.
Kat Hudson, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, had 16 kills against the Lady Burros. Standout senior setter Alyssa Ivey provided 27 assists and Micaela Bailey made 10 digs on defense.
