Brentwood Home Page news reports
A recent rash of vandalism incidents in Brentwood in the past couple of weeks, including at community pool areas, is not unusual for this time of year with students still out of school, Brentwood Police spokesman Tommy Walsh says.

For the second straight week, the BPD weekly crime report listed damage done to the pool area at a neighborhood. There were also six other cases of vandalism, such as two mailboxes destroyed, holes punched in the Freon line of an AC unit, a wood chipper destroyed and obscenities spray-painted on an office building. "We typically have more vandalism incidents during the summer months. Obviously considering that both high school and college students are out of school, we suspect that they could be involved in many of those incidents," Walsh said. "Williamson County will begin classes on August 11th and most of the local colleges will return to class shortly thereafter."

Two other vandalism cases last week involved a vehicle's windshield spray-painted and another vehicle covered with vinegar, flour and chocolate syrup.

However, "the incidents involving a single vehicle are typically more personal in nature where the vehicle owner/driver is specifically targeted," Walsh added.

The neighborhood pool area damaged last week was at Hillwood Drive -- the previous week it was the Taramore Homeowners Association pool area.

"For the past several years we have had incidents of vandalism at several subdivision pools. Those areas seem to provide a gathering spot after hours for some of our local youths,"

A housekeeper at a Governor's Way residence also discovered suspects in the home with alcohol as the apparent target. (Click here for last week's crime report.)

Two mailboxes were also destroyed by fireworks, one in days before July Fourth and the other shortly afterward.

Walsh asks that residents be observant and report suspicious activity to police immediately.

BPD asks that anyone with information about these incidents call the police department at 371-0160. They can also call Williamson County Crime Stoppers at 790-4000.
