Brentwood's Graves, Ravenwood's Stafford and Goss win races

Brentwood High School’s swim and dive team won the Middle Tennessee High School Swim Association region championships at the Centennial Sportsplex on Friday.

BHS came in second in the girls competition and fourth in the boys team scores, but combined had the best overall total among the 30 teams participating.

Robby Graves captured the only individual championship for the Bruins, winning the 500-yard freestyle. The Air Force signee also took third in the 200 individual medley.

Ravenwood was runner-up in the combined scoring, second in girls and third in boys. The Raptors also took home two individual titles: junior Grant Stafford won the 200 freestyle race and junior Alex Goss finished first in the 100 breaststroke.

Coach Ginny Maher’s AquaBruins remain undefeated on the season and now will compete in the Tennessee state high school meet at the Sportsplex in Nashville in two  

“It was a team effort, and there were many best times,” said Lynn Driver, BHS team spokesperson. “It was a sad farewell for some of our seniors, but what a great way to end their high school career. We have the best coach ever.”

Graves anchored the 400 freestyle relay that finished third, with juniors Harrison Turney, Zach Driver and Arthur Vidineyev. Graves also swam on the fourth-place 200 medley, with Driver, sophomore Aaron Maher and Turney.

Brentwood's 200 freestyle relay also finished in third, with Preston Camp, Maher, Artyom Pavlichenko and Vidineyev.

In diving, Max Ketschke was fourth and Jordan Breece sixth for BHS. Driver finished fifth in the 100 butterfly, and Vidineyev was sixth in both the 100 fly and the 200 IM.

The Bruins also added points with Turney (50 free), Pavlichenko (500 free) and Driver (100 backstroke) each finishing eighth.

Ravenwood relay edges Brentwood

The Raptors' 400 freestyle relay of junior Ted Curtiss, senior James Moseley, Goss and Stafford took second place to edge out Brentwood.

Ravenwood junior Reece Boyd clocked in third for the 100 butterfly. He also swam with fellow juniors Curtiss, Goss and Stafford for second place in the 200 medley relay, while BHS was fourth with Driver, Graves, Maher and Turney).

Ravenwood's Stafford placed fourth in the 100 free, and while Goss fifth in the 200 individual medley.

Moseley was fourth in the 500 freestyle event and fifth in the 200 free. Boyd took seventh in the 100 free.

Curtiss added a fourth place in the 100 backstroke and a seventh place in the 200 IM, where Goss finished fifth for the Raptors. Ravenwood also placed fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.

Brentwood's Hoff chalks up 2nd, 3rd

On the girls side, Brentwood freshman Maddie Hoff took second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 50 free, and diver Heidi Alexander had another second-place finish.

BHS senior Allison Maher placed third in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 200 free.

Hoff also swam on the runner-up 400 freestyle relay, with junior Logan Klinsky, Maher and freshman Katie Kemp, and anchored the 200 medley relay that took third, with freshman Paige Colaberdino, Maher and senior Rachel Kaegi.

Ravenwood's 200 medley relay of Kent, Piranian, Cressman and Morris came in second place, ahead of Brentwood's third-place team. The Raptors' relay of Cressman, Morirs, Kimmet and Kent was third to BHS in the 400 free.

BHS was third in the 200 freestyle relay with Colbaerin, Kemp, Kaegi and Klinsky, while Ravenwood was fifth with Danielle Dauchot, Piranian, Baxter, Kimmet.

Klinsky also was fourth in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 500 free. BHS got another fifth in the 100 backstroke with Paige Colaberdino.

Kaegi picked up points at seventh in the 100 fly, and Karla Luetzow placed eighth in the 500 free.

RHS girls, BA swimmers headed to state too

Ravenwood sophomore Hannah Cressman finished fifth in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 200 free.

RHS junior Michaela Kent swam sixth in the 100 backstroke and seventh in the 100 free. Ravenwood ninth-graders Danielle Kimmet and Emmy Baxter placed sixth and seventh in the 500 free.

Senior Emma Morris gave the Raptors points with a seventh in the 500 freestyle race and an eighth in the 100 backstroke. Classmate Taylor Piranian had a seventh place in the 200 IM.

The Tennessee high school state championship meet also takes place at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, on Feb. 10-11.

Thirty swimmers and divers from Brentwood High qualified for state. Prelims will be in the mornings and the finals in the evenings with the top 16.

Brentwood Academy's Margaret Phillips qualified for the state in two events: 100 butterfly and 200 IM, and Matthew Broadbent made state in the 50 free.
