Anthony “Corky” Carter , a Brentwood resident,  will be inducted into the United States Specialty Sports Association national Hall of Fame on Nov. 18 in Kissimmee, Fla.  

Carter has been umpiring baseball and softball for more than 40 years.  He has umpired all levels, from Little League to high school to college.

Having a master’s degree in education, he has a passion for educating officials.  He currently writes for Referee Magazine, with a readership of more than 18,000 sports officials that are members of the National Association of Sports Officials.

He has co-authored a book, Take Charge Softball Umpiring, and written for several softball periodicals.  Corky has conducted umpiring seminars from Texas to Tennessee, and has been featured in audio cassettes and videos.

Carter also has umpired several World Series Championships -- his first working the plate for the championship game of the 1984 USSSA Men’s World Series in Indianapolis.  He was inducted into the Texas USSSA Hall of Fame inaugural ceremony in 1997.

He has umpired major softball tournaments all around Nashville and Tennessee for the past 18 years.  He currently officiates softball and basketball in the Williamson County Parks and Recreation leagues and is a TSSAA baseball umpire.

Carter lives in Brentwood with his wife, Mary Kay, and children David and Chelsea, both University of Tennessee students.
