Brentwood Home Page news reports You’ve still got some time to get vegetables from Stoney Creek’s Farm U-pick hours, and they’ll even teach you how to preserve your summer supply.
Stoney Creek is changing its hours of operation to 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m.-7 p.m. since the summer garden season is winding down.
Olin and Leigh Funderburk are closing Monday-Thursday to give the vegetables a chance to replenish for the weekend.
Meanwhile, this Saturday, July 30, Stoney Creek will host a “hands on” canning seminar during 9-11 a.m. To register, call 615-591-0015 or email leigh_funderburk@bellsouth.net.
Topics that will be covered are: Pressure-canning green beans, water bath canning (dill pickles), blanching for the freezer (squash), jams and jellies, and pickling recipes and tips.
The following vegetables will be available for sale on the weekend: tomatoes, variety of herbs, green beans, okra, yellow squash, zucchini, loads of cucumbers, and a limited amount of Murai super sweet corn.
