The Brentwood and Ravenwood softball teams have played each other six times this year, with four of those games coming in the past week. A double header Friday night lasted well into Saturday morning. In the first three of those games, the Lady Raptors beat the Lady Bruins 2-1.

On Wednesday, Ravenwood again came out victorious, with a 2-0 win that gave them the Region 6-AAA title and home field advantage in the sectionals, which begin Friday night. The Lady Raptors will face Wilson Central, which beat Dickson County 9-2 on Wednesday.

RHS coach Kari Akin and her biggest fan -- and former coach -- her dad Chick Crandell, an asst. softball coach at Hendersonville High.
For Raptors head coach Kari Akin, Friday’s matchup will be a bit of déjà vu. The Lady Cougars beat Ravenwood in the same game last year in extra innings. With another year’s experience behind them and their recent run of victories, she’s thinks the outcome could be different this time around.

Akin’s also happy to keep home field advantage. “If we win, we go to state for the first time. Game time was not available Wednesday night.

As for playing Brentwood, “It’s always tough to play them,” Akin said after the game. When you play a team so often, “you know each others pitchers, each other hitters, defense,” she added.

Holding BHS at bay and winning the region “feels like a job well done,” Akin said.

Brentwood continues to play as well. With the loss, they must travel. The Lady Bruins will face Beech at 5 p.m. Friday at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin.

And at Overton, the Raptors defeated the Bobcats 11-8 to bring home the regional baseball title.

In Div. II-AA tournament competition, Brentwood Academy will host Battle Ground Academy Friday. The winner will qualify for the state tournament.

In boys soccer, Brentwood travels to Centennial today, game time TBA, to take on the Cougars for the regional title. It is the third matchup of the teams this season. The winner will host a Sectional game Saturday against the Region 5 runner up while the loser will be on the road facing the Region 5 Champion. Saturday's winners advance to the state tournament in Murfreesboro next week.

In track and field, Brentwood continues to host the sectional finals which began Wednesday.

Last week BHS hosted the Section 3 South Sub-Sectionals with 15 teams participating.  Athletes placing in the top three in each Sub-Sectional event automatically qualified for the Sectional meet. The top four in each event at this week’s meet qualify for state.
