National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners were recently announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The Merit Scholars were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding finalists in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. Two Brentwood residents were named as winners. Stehpen Bedard attends Montgomery Bell Academy, and Kelsea Best attends Harpeth Hall.

The winners are the finalists from each state that have been judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in college. They were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors. The winners may use their awards at any accredited US college or university.
