We’re so new to the online part of Brentwood Home Page that almost everything new turns into an “aha” moment.
For instance, yesterday’s Brentwood Home Page readers included someone in Belgium, a reader in Canada, another in Germany, and one each in the Bahamas and England. Who knew?
We’re learning the importance of tweeting or twittering or whatever the proper wording is for Twitter.com. On Friday I tweeted and it brought in readers. On Saturday, I didn’t. And we didn’t. Lesson learned. Are you following us on Twitter? We’re at brentwoodhomepg.
On Facebook, we set a goal for 500 Brentwood Home Page fans by our official launch, which for the record is Tuesday, Sept. 1. We reached that goal last week and now we want to reach 1000 … by tomorrow. OK, so we probably won’t. It’s still fun to dream.
But if you’re on Facebook and haven’t joined our Fan page, please do. Today. And tell all of YOUR friends to be our friends and ask them to tell their friends. Then maybe, just maybe, we’ll have 1000 friends by my September birthday, which would be the best present ever (well, that and selling 1000 ads … or even 100).
But two weeks after going live and a day before our official launch, there’s much to be proud of. The unfortunate Mac/Chrome glitch has been fixed. We led local coverage of the recent rash of home burglaries and subsequent arrests of three sets of burglars, most notably the three arrested Aug. 21. We’ve previewed fall sports at our two public and one private high school, and introduced talented columnists (not to mention brought back Jill Burgin!) with more joining the BHP family soon.
The most important thing now is to continue to get and listen to feedback on the site – how it works, how it looks, stories you like, don’t like, suggestions for things to add as we grow, and things you don’t really care about. Please email any feedback, positive and negative, to me at susan@brentwoodhomepage.com.
Tomorrow’s page may not look any different, but it will be. The ‘beta’ site label will be gone. Brentwood Home Page will make its presence here official.
I have no doubt our coverage will always include something a little irreverent or quirky or fun. That’s the joy of a website. But let there be no doubt that my partner Kelly Gilfillan and I are very serious about this venture and the role we will play in Brentwood. We will cover the news fairly, competently and independently. On the business side, we will treat our customers with respect. Our success, and theirs, depends on it.
Brentwood needs and deserves its own exclusive news and information source. Brentwood Home Page is happy to provide it.
