Brentwood Home Page news reports Brentwood Academy senior Josh Davies and Brentwood resident Abbie McKinney won the Division II Middle Tennessee regional decathlon and pentathlon respectively and qualified for the state championship event.
Davies scored 6,340 points to 6,305 by Montgomery Bell Academy junior Brian Oslin. BA senior Cody Russell finished in fifth place with 5,334 points in the competition at MBA on Monday and Tuesday.
McKinney, who attends Franklin Road Academy, won by nearly 500 more points than her nearest competitor, BGA’s Morgan McKinney, in the girls’ pentathlon (3,503 to 3,011). Five of the top six live or go to school in Williamson County, with BGA’s Chloe Tillman just ahead of Brentwood Academy’s Caylyn Harvey and Valerie Griffin.
During the final five decathlon events Tuesday, Davies ran first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.55 seconds), had the best shot put (47-4.50) and tied BGA sophomore Anthony Dunavant for the best high jump (5-11.50). He also finished second in the 1,500 run (5:06. 47) behind Oslin and third in the long jump (19-6.25).
Oslin took the long jump (20-1.50) and 1,500 (4:43.29) on the second day, and tied Russell with the two fastest 100-meter times in separate heats (11.45).
On Monday, Davies threw the discus the fartherest (126-2), ran the quickest 400 (50.85) and tied Oslin with the highest pole vault (11-5.75). But the Samford signee was fourth in the 100 (11.70) and seventh in the triple jump (39-5.25).
In the pentathlon, Abbie McKinney won the 100-meter hurdles over Morgan McKinney (15.21 to 16.23) and topped her in the long jump as well (18-0.50 to 17-11.75). Abbie also was first in the shot put to BA’s Griffin (36-3 to 32-8.25), and had the best high jump (5-1.75 to Tillman’s 4-9.75).
BA’s Harvey was fastest in the 800 meters, clocking 2:23.51 to Abbie McKinney’s second-place 2:30.19.
