Brentwood Academy’s Abbie Whitehurst won the 200 meters in Division II, and Christ Presbyterian eighth-grader Meghan Roach captured the A-AA pole vault title at the state track and field meet Thursday.
Roach and sophomore teammate Ellie Clayton were 1-2 in the vault, with Roach clearing 8 feet, 9 inches and Clayton second at 8-6 in the TSSAA Spring Fling championships in Murfreesboro.
Whitehurst won her 200 race in 25.40 seconds in Thursday night's girls running event finals at MTSU, and sophomore teammate Leslye Williams was third in 25.62.
In Class AAA, Brentwood High junior Amy Nelson took second place in the discus with a throw of 115 feet, 9 inches; sophomore teammate Amber Sudzius was fourth at 112-07. The top toss was 142-08.

Also Thursday, Brentwood’s two-time state decathlon winner Kevin Lazas finished second in the boys pole vault finals, clearing the bar with a vault of 15 feet to 15-6 for Houston's Austin Crenshaw. Lazas also competes in the Class AAA long jump and high jump on Friday at MTSU's track and field stadium in Murfreesboro.

Boys running event finals for AAA, A-AA and Division II will take place at 6 p.m. Friday night at MTSU (live video-streaming at www.tssaanetwork.com). BA, BHS and RHS also have qualifiers in boys field events during the day Friday.
Brentwood High was fifth in the girls AAA team standings with 33 points, and Ravenwood scored 14 points. Brentwood Academy was also fifth in D-II standings with 53 points, while Christ Presbyterian finished eighth in A-AA with 23 points.
BHS was third in the 4x400 in 4:04.98, and Ravenwood finished fourth at 4:05.93. White Station won in 3:54.92.
BHS senior Rachel Gregory was fourth in the pole vault on Wednesday at 10 feet, a foot lower than the winning vault.
Brentwood junior Kelly Bickel ran the 200 in 25.79 seconds for fifth, 0.9 of a second behind the winner.
RHS sophomore Halie Lemasters took fifth in the 400 at 59.74 seconds, while Bickel was eighth at 1:01.84. The top time was 55.73 seconds.
Brentwood freshman Margaret Howard had the fifth-best time of 5:17.39 in the field of 16 for the 1,600-meter run, won in 5:05.41. Ravenwood sophomore Erika Peoples was seventh at 5:24.39.
Ravenwood’s clocking of 9:56.89 was good for seventh in the 4x800 field, which was won in 9:38.31.
Peoples of RHS also finished in the top half of the 3,200 meters Wednesday with an eighth-place 11:28.56.
Division II girls
Besides Whitehurst’s victory and Williams’ third place in the 200, the BA 4x100 relay captured a runner-up finish in 49.74 seconds to Girls Preparatory School’s 49.41.
Brentwood Academy senior Mary Conger took third place in both the Division II hurdles events. Conger ran the 300 hurdles at 47.58 seconds, to the winning 44.59. She cleared the 100 hurdles in 14.79 seconds, .57 of a second behind the winner.
Conger also placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 4.75 inches. The winning mark was 18-10.25.
The Lady Eagles were third in the 4x200 at 1:45.54 to the winning 1:44.14.
BA’s Williams was also fifth in the 100-meter dash at 12.65 seconds, just missing fourth in a photo finish. The top speed was 11.86 seconds.
BA sophomore Caylyn Harvey was seventh in the 800, clocking 2:21.67 – 5.54 off the winning pace.
BA was seventh in 9:57.63 in the 4x800, won by Baylor in 9:37.04.
A-AA girls
In addition to Roach and Clayton’s 1-2 finish in the pole vault, the CPA team finished fourth in the A-AA 4x400 relay in  4:12.24, 14.20 off the winning time.
