Samuel Hagens captured the high jump as one of five Ravenwood athletes who made the state during the first day of sectionals at Rossview in Clarksville on Wednesday. All the running events, beside the 3200, will take place on the final day Thursday.

BHS sophomore Eric Hoff also won the pole vault, at 13-6, and Bruins distance runners Nathan Thomas and Paul Stuart were 1-2 in the 3200 run. Jake Lazas, who like Hoff had already qualified for the decathlon, also moved on in triple jump with second place.
Wade, the defending shot put champion, had one of his better throws at 59 feet, 1 inch. Meet workers had to move back their timbers at the shot put station because Wade was throwing past the boundary.
Cameron Brown also will compete at state for RHS in both shot put and discus, and Zach Gilroy made state for both high jump and pole vault.
Brentwood had 74 points on the boys side after the first day and 62 in the girls competition, counting the earlier decathlon-pentathlon results.
Abby Vorhaus was second in the pole vault for the Lady Bruins to qualify as a freshman for the state Spring Fling Championships in Murfreesboro .
Kelly Bickel was second in the long jump for BHS at 17 feet, 8 inches -- missing first by only a half inch, Coach Ronnie Seigenthale rsaid.
Emma Williams also made state with third place in the triple jump.
In the discus, Amber Sudzius and Amy Nelson both qualified after taking second and third, respectively.
The Raptors' Erika Peoples qualified for the 3200-meter run, and Kennedie Leath made the girls' shot put field.
Brentwood freshman Elizabeth Scott just missed making the 3200 field with fifth place, while Sudzius also was one spot short of qualifying in shot put in fifth.
