Kids, puppies safe after Saturday afternoon fire Brentwood Home Page staff report Photos by Guy Edwards At approximately 3:15 today, a fire started from unknown causes in the garage of country music singer Trace Adkins in the BonBrook subdivision. A nanny, teenage helper, and Trace’s two younger daughters were at home when the fire broke out.
There had been a worker in the garage about 20 minutes before a loud explosion was heard. Lindsi Weaver, the Adkins’ nanny, went to investigate and saw smoke and flames coming from a work bench area. They exited the house and called 911.
Rhonda Adkins returned home while the fire was in progress, but Trace is headed to Alaska for a concert date and to take his band fishing.
Brentwood Fire & Rescue as well as the Nolensville remain on the scene.
"I saw the smoke from my home in Nolensville," Asst. Fire Chief Brian Goss told Brentwood Home Page from the scene. "We had engines there within four minutes and found at least a third of the house engaged in flames. The fire then travelled through the attic and spread. We still have active fire," Goss said at 5:35 p.m.
Members of the Williamson County Red Cross are also on the scene.
“It was extremely scary,” said 15-year-old Alyssa Falls who was at the home when the fire broke out. “We were in the living room watching TV and heard a big noise in the garage. We thought some shelves had fallen down or something, but it really was more noise than that.
“Miss Lindsi went to see what had happened. She saw a big spark and fire everywhere and screamed ‘Get out of the house!’ At first we thought she was kidding, but then the fire alarms went off and we went out the front door as fast as we could.”
Once outside, the girls turned back and “we saw the whole garage in flames,” Alyssa, a Brentwood High School sophomore.
Nine-year-old Briana and a neighbor went to the back porch to rescue the family’s two miniature Australian shepherd puppies.
“It’s really sad; it’s heartbreaking,” said Alyssa, who spends a great deal of time with the Adkins’ girls.
