United Way benefit has 'good positive buzz'

Hundreds of guests filled the CoolSprings Galleria Sunday evening for the annual Taste of Williamson, a showcase of local restaurants, caterers and food vendors that benefits the United Way of Williamson County.

A hit this year was the first appearance by downtown Nashville’s Margaritaville restaurant. More than 750 margaritas were served from its Tiki Bar, said Taste chairman and Williamson A.M. editor Mark Cook.

Cook, who has volunteered on at least seven Taste events, said a lot of people commented on how “social” the event was this year, “and I agree.” And it didn't all have to do with the margararitas. Cook noted that this year's crowd was definitely a "white wine" one, based on the red wine and beer remaining at the end of the evening.

“They told me they just noticed a lot of conversation, friendliness and a good positive buzz up and down the mall,” he added. “It was a great crowd.”

Giandi’s Catering won the event’s most coveted “Best Presentation” award with its "A Night in the Garden" display of fresh grilled vegetables, Tuscan lollipops, and signature fresh herb cheescakes with flatbreads and lavash.

“We are so honored by the efforts of our sponsors, all the merchants and volunteers that made this year’s event so successful,” said the United Way’s Cheryl Stewart. “It’s wonderful to see the outpouring of community support, knowing that our partner agencies will benefit.”

The event is sponsored by the Brentwood Cool Springs Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Galleria. Vanderbilt University Medical Center was the presenting sponsor.

Organizers are still collecting tickets and money from United Way partner agencies that helped sell tickets, Cook said. A total on the amount of money raised should be available by the end of the week.
