Penned by Commissioner Regina Smithson and City Attorney, Roger Horner
T'was four nights before Ricky Watson retired,
The Brentwood Police Chief so widely admired.
All the commissioners were snug in their chairs When Commissioner Dunn caught the staff unawares.
She said "Where is the mural that was up on that wall?" The room grew so silent, you could hear a pin fall.
Perplexion was all over Mike Walker's face. He had no response for the wall's big blank space.
With no staff or board member having a clue, We called in the Chief of our Finest in Blue.
Tuesday's staff meeting started With the case in full swing, But not one staff member remembered a thing.
“Think, Carson! Think, Roger! Think, Linda!” blared Mike. “Think Dobson and Worsham and Harris alike!
Get me that mural and get it here fast! Find it before one more minute has passed!”
Then our "Wonderful Debbie" Bless her dear little heart, Searched through the archives for a trace of the art.
In April of '10 the film showed it there, But by May it had vanished, disappeared in thin air!
After hours of effort, it all came to light. That mural was hiding Right out in plain sight!
It was not in the dumpster, it was not in a hall. It was mocking us all on the opposite wall.
T'was Kirk to the rescue, the mural he found It was hanging in the chamber, all safe and sound.
No thief apprehended, no scandal exposed But the case of the vanishing mural is closed.
It wasn’t the firemen who found it, we note, Or Chief Lane would come out of retirement to gloat.
We laughed at this news just as soon as we read it. Element'ry, my dear Watson, But, we can’t give you credit.
So just this one time you did not pass the test But you leave a department That’s ahead of the rest.
And now Lisa gains what the rest of us lose You'll sail off in the sunset on cruise after cruise.
Chief Watson, we thank you for all that you’ve done. You leave here knowing BPD‟s number one!
And we bet you’ll exclaim In your home oh so rural “I don’t give a flip ‘bout that blankety-blank mural?!?”
