Ravenwood freshman Sean Karl will play for a state high school singles championship Friday, while RHS sophomores Lauren Caballero and Madison Stankevich go for a double crown to add to their team title.
Caballero and Stankevich, whose doubles win was the deciding match for the team trophy, won two matches today to advance into the 9 a.m. Friday finals at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro. The Lady Raptors' top doubles team will take the court against Anna Fuhrman-Louise Powers of Rossview.
Karl will take on Cookeville senior Joseph Proctor in the Class AAA boys singles finals at 11 a.m. Friday at the TSSAA's Spring Fling high school championships.
Karl, in the top 20 in USTA boys 16s national rankings, defeated Science Hill Michael Chen 6-3, 6-3 in Thursday afternoon's semifinal. In the morning quarterfinals, he dispatched Knoxville West sophomore Steven Patrick in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
For the second straight day, Caballero-Stankevich defeated White Station sophomores Kayla Jones and Kasey Spilman, winning 6-1, 6-0 in this afternoon's AAA doubles semifinals.
The RHS duo both scored singles wins as well as a doubles win over Jones and Spilman in Wednesday's final that gave the Lady Raptors their first team tennis crown. This morning, Caballero-Stankevich defeated McCarty-Holloway of Knoxville Catholic 6-2, 6-1 in the doubles quarterfinals.
