By AMY FREESE For Brentwood Home Page So we've chosen to take the road of "Calm and Can Do" but it's always helpful to have a few mile markers along the way to ensure us that we are on the right path, right?
Today's DesignHer Living Challenge has road side assistance at your beck and call to keep you on the path towards your Promised Land of "Calm and Can Do." If you missed last week's column today challenge is related to, click here.
- Be clear on where you want to go, what you want to do, and what you want to accomplish (this could include both short term daily goals and long term special project goals.
- List everything you need to do in order to accomplish either set of goals.
- Label your goals from highest to lowest priorities.
- Ask yourself which goals completed will make the biggest impact.
- Decide the sacrifice you are willing to make to accomplish your goals. If the outcome is high than your sacrifice will be higher but will keep you motivated because you know it will be worth it.
- Keep in mind you will probably have to say 'no' to some things in order to accomplish some of your goals. This is usually temporary.
- To keep you on track you will also need to decide how bad you want to move from the overwhelming busy road maps in your mind. Some people might actually be afraid of the 'calm and can do' roads...as society sure doesn't promote traveling those roads.
- NIGHTLY, create your list for the next day. Do not rest your pretty little head on that satin pillow before you do this. It will not only allow you to rest easier and more peacefully but will get you started on the right foot before the rooster crows. Include everything from quiet time, to exercise to phone calls and everything from business to personal. As you become more disciplined your list will typically only include more of the 'biggies.'
- Cross off as you go and feel the states of 'overwhelm' and 'busy' drain from your brain.
- If you don't get to put a line through it all as planned...don't throw up your hands and grumble and groan that you're just too busy and overwhelmed instead, calmly repeat #8 and begin again and thank the sun as it wakes you for another opportunity to begin again at shining brightly.
