Two Smyrna men were arrested on assault charges yesterday after an altercation between motorists and a road construction crew on Split Log Road.

David G. Rader, 60, of 1004 Old Jefferson Pike, Smyrna, was charged with aggravated assault. He posted a $1,000 bond and was released from the Williamson County Jail.

Timothy T. Fowler, 47, listed as the same address, was booked and released after being issued a misdemeanor citation on a charge of simple assault.

At approximately 2:39 p.m. Thursday, Brentwood Police officers were dispatched to the road construction area of Split Log Road after a report of an altercation between the road crew and a motorist, Capt. Tommy Walsh reported.

The construction workers reported that a vehicle with three occupants drove through the construction area at a high rate of speed. When the road crew yelled for the driver to slow down he pulled over and a physical altercation took place in the roadway. At some point during the altercation one of the subjects from the vehicle displayed a handgun.

No shots were fired and no serious injuries were reported in the altercation.

The suspects left the area of Split Log Road and were later stopped by Brentwood PD officers on Sunset Road near Waller Road.
