Super Bowl Sunday is a day of snacking on a variety of foods – most of which were not on our diet plans during the month of January.  A recent poll on Ask.com revealed America’s 10 most popular Super Bowl snacks:

1. Chili
2. Pizza
3. Meatballs
4. Salsa
5. Ribs
6. Spinach dip
7. Wings
8. Guacamole
9. Quesadillas
10. Artichoke dip

While we usually think of beer with these foods, we’re going for the wine. As many football fans have realized, there are a lot of great wines that pair well with football food.  So here is our Saucy Sister Super Bowl Matchup.

 1. Chili. For a traditional beef chili, we recommend the full(back) bodied Cabernet Sauvignon.  For a chicken chili, try a Sauvignon Blanc.

2. Pizza. Italian food (well, sort of), get an Italian wine. Chianti is our choice.

3. Meatballs. Since the meat and sauce can be such a variety, you’ll want a food friendly wine like pinot noir.

4. Salsa. Tomatoes can be difficult to match with wine, but we’re betting on a dry Riesling.

5. Ribs. Malbec would be a touchdown!

6. Spinach dip. The creamy nature of this dip requires a lighter white, like a Chenin Blanc.

7. Wings. A seemingly tough match, but we like a slightly sweet wine like Gewűrtztraminer.

8. Guacamole. For a real kicker, go for Torrontés.

9. Quesadillas. Merlot. A recent underdog, but always a winner in our book.

10. Artichoke dip. Your most valuable player: Champagne.

We hope you enjoy your Super Bowl matchups.  And, yes the game too.

Cheers!
