Saber forensic team brings home trophies from tournament
Brentwood Home Page news reports Sunset Middle School students and faculty have really gotten into the spirit of giving this holiday season. Feed America First was the beneficiary of a canned good drive, sponsored by the student council, which resulted in approximately 350 pounds of food donations prior to Thanksgiving.
The SSMS library waived around $70.00 in overdue fines for students who contributed canned goods to the drive.
Student Council collected more than 700 stockings, with additional boxes full of toys and treats for the Salvation Army Toy drive.
The SSMS NJHS collected 11-12 boxes of new and “gently used” books in its Book Drive, to be donated through a project to get more books into the hands of students in the Franklin Special Schools District.
In other news at Sunset Middle, the Saber Forensic team brought home the sixth-place trophy at the Junior Classic tournament on the campus of Western Kentucky University.
More than 200 middle school students from 11 school competed in this battle of oral presentations. All 15 of Sunset’s participants did an outstanding job with five making it to the final round of competition.
These five included Preston Johnson, Sudeep Ghantasala, Drew Taylor, Prateek Konakalla, and Tejas Manohar, who finished first in Public Speaking.
