The Devonshires, who have performed with numerous rock legends such as Joe Cocker, Jefferson Airplane, The Doobie Brothers, Eddie Money, The Edgar Winter Group, Badfinger, Paul Revere and the Raiders and The Temptations, cover songs by some of the ‘60s and ‘70s biggest hits by The Beatles, The Monkees, The Grass Roots, The Doors, Three Dog Night, The Who, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, The Moody Blues, and many more.
The band joins local favorite Little Texas, the Nashville Symphony, The WannaBeatles, Who’s Bad: Michael Jackson Tribute Band, and 7 Bridges: The Ultimate Eagles Experience in this year’s series that kicks off Saturday, Jun 5.
The city’s huge Fourth of July fireworks celebration featuring The Kadillacs returns for its 24th year.
The free concert series draws several thousand people each week during June and July.
Linda Lynch, the city’s community relations director, said she first heard about The Devonshires last year when someone suggested them. “Then I kept hearing about them over and over from people who had seen them elsewhere. When you start hearing it from several sources, you start to think about it.”
So she looked up the band’s website and was impressed by what she saw. Lynch’s next step was to call the band’s manager, whose number she found on the website. “It turns out the manager lives right here in Brentwood,” Lynch said. “What a small world!”
“Each year we try to get one or two new acts but it’s always hard, especially when you’ve had bands that everyone wants to hear again,” she said. “People in Brentwood do not hesitate to tell you how they feel,” Lynch added.
“We’re real excited about,” she said of the season. “Each concert is a great concert.”
In addition to The Devonshires, Lynch said the Michael Jackson band will be new to many here. While they played last year, impending storms kept many at home and then sent many others home early when thunder began rolling. But those who did stick around for the music that had people dancing in the raindrops, loved it, Lynch said. “Many people told me, ‘please have them back.’”
The Devonshires shows are performed with “exceptional musical precision, fully costumed with props and skits and suitable and fun for all ages,” according to the band’s website.
