Sportsman's Lodge brings you the “Student of the Week” which will highlight accomplishments by the city’s outstanding high school students.  Sportsman's Lodge will provide each honored student with a $15 gift card to use at their family restaurant.

Each week, one student from each high school will be chosen by their principal to be featured for achievements including citizenship, volunteerism, leadership, academics, and much more.

Brentwood Academy - Wesley Cates

Brentwood Academy senior Wesley Cates was chosen student of the week for “being an excellent student and a strong contributor to a variety of programs at school and in the community,” said BA Upper School Principal Paul Compton.

Wesley is a National Merit Commended Scholar, is a member of Habitat for Humanity and is involved at his church.

Other activities include being a Big Brother and participating in Youth in Government, National Honor Society and Youth Leadership Brentwood.

Wesley is currently applying to colleges, and his top two choices are Auburn or Stanford.

His parents are Darlene and Steve Cates.

Brentwood High School - Riley Ahlstrand

Brentwood High's Riley Ahlstrand was nominated for student of the week for being an outstanding junior and working with the school TV program.

“Riley is the perfect student – quiet and hardworking," said Ronnie Adcock, TV Pro teacher. "In media I give her a project and a deadline and she goes to work. Riley always turns in good work. I wish I had more students like her.”

Other school activities include Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Habitat for Humanity. Outside of school Riley volunteers at an animal shelter, teachers Sunday school classes and sings in her church choir at Brentwood United Methodist Church.

Looking ahead to college, Riley aspires to attend Belmont University and study music management. “I love country music and my dream is to be a personal manager,” Riley said.

Her parents are Wendy and Eric Ahlstrand.

Ravenwood High School - Sara Rains

Senior Sara Rains is a National Merit Semifinalist and outstanding student at Ravenwood. Her class schedule includes rigorous Advanced Placement classes, and in addition Sarah is a key member of the Lady Raptor volleyball team that recently won its second straight state championship. Sara is well respected at school and a leader among the student body.

"Making 100-plus in grades, taking AP classes is just the take-off of this soaring Raptor. Her high flight includes JROTC where she competed with 137 other cadets to achieve Lieutenant Colonel Battalion Commander,"said Troy Aldridge, student advisor. "Sara is ranked number one in her class of Distinguished Cadets. Even more remarkably, Sara is a critical part of Ravenwood volleyball success."

Sara has several colleges pursuing her, but at this time she has not made her final decision. Planning to major in the medical field, Sara wants to study hands-on medicine. While at college, she would like to play club level volleyball for enjoyment.

Her parents are John and Sally Rains.
