Sportsman's Lodge brings you the “Student of the Week” which will highlight accomplishments by the city’s outstanding high school students.  Sportsman's Lodge will provide each honored student with a $15 gift card to use at their family restaurant.

Each week, one student from each high school will be chosen by their principal to be featured for achievements including citizenship, volunteerism, leadership, academics, and much more.

Brentwood High School - Will Martin

Will Martin, a sophomore at Brentwood High School, is a member of the lacrosse team and has participated in World Changers, a mission in Philadelphia. Will was nominated for his enthusiasm and example of how to be an exceptional student in high school.

Lori Anne Eggleston, School Counselor, had this to say about Will: “He has challenged himself academically during the first year and a half at BHS. He always has a smile on his face and is willing to help others. He is very much involved in school activities and is becoming quite a leader. I look for great things to happen in his future.”

Although college is a few years off, Will is making plans for his future. “I hope to achieve a master’s degree at UNC and I wish to have a career in veterinarian medicine,” he said.

Will is the son of Kevin and Jennifer Martin.

Ravenwood High School - Taylor Younginer

Ravenwood High School junior Taylor Younginer is junior class president; a member of STARS, BUMC youth group and Sunshine Choir; and a volunteer for Day Star Counseling Ministries. Taylor also is a member of several honor societies including Mu Alpha Theta and the English Honor Society.

“Taylor is a very busy student at Ravenwood as she is involved with several clubs and organizations," said Robin Dickerson, assistant principal at RHS. "She is a great asset to the student body, faculty and administration, but it is her service and kindness to the less visible students that makes her my choice for student of the week.

"I have witnessed her kindness to many different students individually when it appeared they could use a friend. We are all very fortunate to have such a selfless person among us to help remind each of us what we need to do on a more regular basis. Thanks Taylor!”

Looking ahead to college, Taylor plans to apply at Emory, Vanderbilt, Belmont and Alabama. She would like to study child psychology with an emphasis on religion and Spanish. These skills would incorporate Taylor’s hopes to become a child counselor with her dream of serving on missions in foreign countries.

Taylor is the daughter of Beth and Jeff Younginer.

Note: Brentwood Academy is not participating this week.
