Sportsman's Lodge brings you the “Student of the Week” which will highlight accomplishments by the city’s outstanding high school students.  Sportsman's Lodge will provide each honored student with a $15 gift card to use at their family restaurant.

Each week, one student from each high school will be chosen by their principal to be featured for achievements including citizenship, volunteerism, leadership, academics, and much more. 

Brentwood High School -- Alex Howard

Brentwood High School senior Alex Howard, who is ranked third in his class, was named the Scholar/Athlete of the Week  by WUXP-Channel 30 during last Thursday's football telecast.

Alex, a standout tennis player, also won the 2010 USTA Tennessee Junior Sportsmanship Award. He has played No. 1 singles for BHS all three years so far, and won the 2009 state doubles championship as a freshman.

He helped lead the Bruins tennis team to a state team title in 2010 and runner-up finishes in 2009 and 2011. On the junior circuit, Alex is a former No. 1-ranked USTA Southern section player and a two-time Southern champion.

In the classroom, Alex has been ranked in the top 10 percent of his class each year after moving to Brentwood shortly before his freshman year. He was named Human Enrichment Student of the Year as a ninth-grader and placed 10th in Tennessee on the Level 3 National Spanish Exam his sophomore year.

Currently Alex is president of the National Honor Society and co-president of Mu Alpha Theta at school. He also is involved in Science National Honor Society, STARS and Model UN at BHS.

This summer Alex volunteered twice a week at Metro-General Hospital, working in the orthopedic clinic. He is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Nashville, and halso as attended several events to support the STARS leaderhsip organization. He works as a soccer referee for the Brentwood YMCA soccer league in the fall and spring.
