RHS volleyball team, BHS football freshmen also triumph
Brentwood Home Page news reports Ravenwood's girls soccer team won a District 11-AAA battle with Independence in overtime 2-1 Thursday when the Raptors scored early on a free kick by junior Mackenzie Kastner.
RHS is now 3-0 overall, 1-0 in district play.
It was an exciting and well played game, with Independence getting on the board in the first half on sophomore Morgan Jackson's goal following a blocked corner kick.
Ravenwood senior Christy Padgett, however, evened it up in the second half with the regulation ending 1-1.
The Lady Raptors play their first road match on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Siegel, before playing big back-to-back district games at unbeaten Franklin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, and at rival Brentwood at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20.
VOLLEYBALL
Ravenwood 3, Centennial 0: Ravenwood's defending state champion team came back in the second game to sweep Centennial in Thursday night's District 11-AAA match 25-15, 25-23, 25-15.
RHS had trailed the Cougars 15-21 before the rally. The Lady Raptors now travel Friday afternoon to a tournament in Louisville.
Stephanie Cerino led the Lady Raptors with 10 kills, a block and an ace. Sara Rains added 8 kills and 2 aces, followed by Jazzy Oates with 7 kills and 2 blocks. Alyssa Ivey also had 31 assists and four aces, while Micaela Bailey delivered 14 digs and an ace.
BGA 3, Brentwood Academy 0: The Lady Eagles played a close match with region opponent Battle Ground Academy before falling 21-25, 12-25 and 18-25 Thursday.
Lily Dobberpuhl and Brennan Sehrt had three kills apiece, and setter Margaret Tulloch recorded six assists. Tulloch and Sehrt each served up an ace, while Hailey Pierson and Sehrt both two blocks. Defensive specialist Kaitlyn Cash also came up with six digs.
BA also lost 3-0 to Ensworth earlier in the week, 9-25, 19-25, 14-25. Tulloch had four kills and 10 assists, while Sehrt also tallied four kills. Cash and Calleigh Minor each had an ace on serves, and Cash had 11 digs on defense.
FRESHMAN FOOTBALL
Brentwood 24, Blackman 21: The Bruins' ninth-graders came away with victory against their Rutherford County opponents on Thursday.
