BHS denies RHS top spot with 2-0 win over Franklin

The Brentwood Bruins had less than 24 hours to savor their victory over Ravenwood before facing Franklin in their regular-season ending game at Brentwood Thursday night.

The Bruins emerged with a 2-0 victory that enabled them to clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming District 11-AAA tournament. Coaches will meet Saturday morning to determine game times, with BHS and RHS both getting byes into Wednesday's semifinals at Ravenwood.

Franklin came into the game fresh from a 4-2 win over Centennial and carrying only one district loss on its record. A win for the Rebels would have put them into second place and would have also given Ravenwood the top tournament seed.

For the second consecutive night Brentwood’s Daniel McLaughlin tallied two goals which proved decisive as the Bruins closed out their regular season with a record of 13-0-3.

McLaughlin scored in the 26th and 27th minutes of the game, both goals coming off of quick strikes from balls played from midfield deep into the Franklin third of the field. Patrick Brooks assisted the first goal and Tommy Kuttenkuler the second.

The Bruins had several other chances to put the game away but were not able to find the back of the net after McLaughlin's second goal.

Franklin came out in the second half with only three defenders, choosing to add another offensive player to their attack. The Rebels pressured the Brentwood defense throughout the second half and had several scoring chances that were thwarted by outstanding keeper play from Bruins senior Alex Blanton.
