Brentwood Home Page news reports Brentwood High’s soccer team, which went through the regular season unbeaten, saw its year ended in the region semifinals with a 3-2 loss at Overton on Tuesday night.
The Bruins took a 2-0 lead into halftime on goals three minutes apart. Dan McLaughlin scored in the 27th minute on a long through pass from Matt England. The second came in the 30th minute on a header by 6-foot-5 Will Jones off Matt Homonnay’s corner kick.
But Overton got on the board 3 minutes after halftime with a penalty kick by Cain Honorato. The Bobcats tied it 8 minutes later on a score by Aryan Ibraham.
The decisive goal was scored in the 70th minute after a nice ball over the defense found Daniel Martinez wide open.
Southern Methodist signee Alex Blanton had five saves for Brentwood, while keeper Matthew Smith recorded eight saves for Overton.
BHS, which lost in the district finals last week to rival Ravenwood, would have also earned a sectional game by making the region finals. Overton now will play at RHS on Thursday in the Region 6-AAA championship game, which will decide sectional home sites for Saturday.
