Bored games anyone? I think not
We have had a mild winter this year but generally speaking, once football season is over and before March Madness begins, there’s nothing like an inside game to help keep our minds sharp when it’s cold outside.

With the race for the Republican presidential nomination more and more looking like a two-man contest between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, Republican voters are being courted big-time as the primary season heats up.

If only Carol Birdsong could predict tornados

You never know what the month of January will bring here in Middle Tennessee.
Last year at this time we were freezing to death and schools were pushing their limit on snow days. This year every WCS student’s favorite, Carol Birdsong, has only had one occasion to make her fateful call. It has been a pretty mild winter.

Hoping Paula and Tim: Sometimes it is too easy for us to put ourselves in someone else’s place and say what we might do in a particular situation.  Truth be told, it is not that easy to know what we would do in any circumstances until we are there.
When I was a child, a grownup neighbor friend taught me the old Native American prayer about not criticizing someone before we have “walked a mile in his (or her) moccasins.”  Good words to live by.

All will be well at our little piece of heaven
We are fortunate here in our little ‘burb when it comes to controversy and conflict. We don’t have a lot of it and when we do, we tend to work things out without too much ill will.
For the most part we are pretty civil people.  But like any municipality, we will have the occasional little dust-up. New roads, multi-family housing, zoning variances and billboards near county lines will certainly cause some strong feelings and heated discussions. On rare occasions disputed matters will end up in the courts

I am a total sucker for the TV commercials that tug at my heartstrings. During the holidays my wife and I are especially partial to the Publix ad showing the medical resident working Christmas Eve, talking to his mom on his cell phone.

With Christmas in the rearview mirror and 2011 now past, I am taking this opportunity to list a few things for which I am thankful, based on some of the content of “What I Know” since I started writing in June...

Now that Thanksgiving is over, I guess I must accept that the Christmas season has begun. It is the day before Thanksgiving as I write this but as you read it, it’s the Monday after. I hope you had a nice holiday weekend.  There are many of you who spent it putting up your Christmas tree and outside lights and you are now in full holiday mode.
