Brentwood Home Page news reports
Williamson County Schools’ TCAP achievement scores were celebrated Monday when the Board of Education held its July meeting. Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney shared that Williamson County ranks first in the state in reading, social studies and science and second in the state in math.

Looney told the board he was proud of the teachers, students and parents who all contributed to the district’s continued success. He also celebrated the increase in Advanced Placement class enrollment across the district. The passing rate for AP tests was maintained even with a 19 percent enrollment increase, he added.

In the Board Chairman’s Report, Pat Anderson welcomed Kevin Deck as the district’s new assessment analyst and also reminded board members of the Aug. 7 ribbon cutting ceremonies for two new schools. Summit High’s ceremony begins at 1 p.m. with the one at Clovercroft Elementary following at 3 p.m.

In New Business, the Board:

  • Approved five policies on first reading including: Appeals to the board, accounting system, financial reports and records (delete and merge with 2.700), student activity funds management and student solicitations and fundraising.
  • Approved a request to waive attorney-client privilege for a limited purpose.
  • Approved a budget amendment to the 2011-2012 General Purpose Budget for a State required pay raise and a two percent raise for county personnel.
  • Approved two facilities requests for Summit High including a change order for warning flashers on Buckner Lane and a change order for Bituminous Oil Index Cost.

In other action, the board:

  • Approved four policies on second reading including school attendance areas, zoning and non-resident students, school day, service animals and evaluation.
  • Approved recommended field trip fee requests.
  • Approved changes to the Ravenwood High softball field dugouts.

In addition, Anderson announced that the Interscholastic Athletics policy was not brought forward for a second reading from the Policy Committee as there were too many unanswered questions about how policy changes would affect the district.

Each school principal has a copy of the Board packet information.

The next regular meeting of the WCBE will be Monday, Aug. 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Administrative Complex in Franklin.
