On Tuesday, Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson declared that June 28 will now and forever be United Way of Williamson County Day. His proclamation was just one of several memorable moments experienced when the local United Way celebrated its 50th birthday at a private “Thank You” celebration hosted by Andrews Cadillac in Brentwood. A public celebration is planned later this year.

Special recognition was given to Becky Darby for leading UWWC for its first 25 years. Also on hand to be recognized were representatives from four of the original five agencies funded in 1961. During its existence, the UWWC has raised over $50 million which has helped 32 agencies and 48 programs as well as special initiatives to promote healthy lifestyles, financial stability and lifetime learning to reach independence. Special programs provide free tax preparation for lower income families.
