Brentwood Home Page news reports The 11th annual "Fat Orange Tuesday," sponsored by the Williamson County Chapter of the University of Tennessee National Alumni Association, raised over $8,700 from its live and silent auctions at the Brentwood Country Club, March 8.
Dr. Joe DiPietro, new president of the University of Tennessee, served as the grand marshal and was crowned as king by Dr. George Bitzas, of Knoxville, professor emeritus, UT, Knoxville School of Music, who was the first grand marshal for the celebration. Comedian Rick Wey, also a UT alum, entertained the group with his humor, and the UT Knoxville Jazz Ensemble performed throughout the evening.
Festivities included the live and silent auctions with proceeds benefiting the Williamson County UT Alumni Scholarship Endowment, which benefits the music departments on the Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Martin campuses; and the Fund for the Future, a giving program of the UT Alumni Association.
As president of the University of Tennessee, DiPietro serves as the chief executive officer of the statewide university system that includes the Knoxville campus, campuses in Chattanooga and Martin, the Health Science Center in Memphis, and statewide institutes of agriculture and public service. He also serves as chairman of the Board of Governors of UT-Battelle, which manages the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the Department of Energy, and as a member of the University of Tennessee Board of Trustees.
