Royal wedding awaits, and BHP will be there
Royal wedding awaits, and BHP will be there | BrentWord, Brentwood Home Page,Susan Leathers, brentwood tn news,

Some not very nice friends are making disparaging remarks about the Royal Wedding on Facebook. Obviously they have no sense of what is really important in life.

Originally, a group of girlfriends was coming to Brentwood to watch the ceremony. We were then going to run in the Country Music Marathon dressed as various members of the royal family.

I was going to be Princess Margaret. I always planned to have a Margaret but instead got a Martin and a Thomas. And I’ve always been a bit of a party girl.

Laura was going to be Camilla. She's no homewrecker but they're both tall and gangly. Cathy was going to be Fergie. She’s always up for a good time. Debbie, a former Miss Fries High School, already has a tiara so she got to be Princess Di. Eve wanted to be Mrs. Middleton, Kate’s mom. She, too, has been trying to quit smoking. For years. She would never be caught chewing gum in public, though.

We were going to wear tiaras and eat scones in front of the big screen TV, a far cry from the 19-inch one we watched 30 years ago when Di and Chuck tied the knot.

Alas, the plan started to unravel this week. I promise it had nothing to do with the condition of my house. Or the fact that none of us started training for the marathon when we said we would.

Instead, we’re meeting in southwest Virginia. There will still be tiaras and scones but the TV will probably be 22 inches tops. There won’t be a marathon but maybe we’ll hike on White Top Mountain or the Virginia Creeper trail.

We’ll take bets on how long the balcony smooch will last and if the dress will be strapless and how long the train will be. I’m betting she will wear Queen Elizabeth’s dress. Really. On one of the dozens of TV specials I’ve watched in recent weeks, they keep showing Liz on her big day. I think Kate would look great in the 1947 vintage gown.

Will you be watching? If you have a Royal Wedding story to share, please let me know!

Move over Barbara, Becca's on the story

I don’t know where my invitation to the real ceremony ended up, but it never arrived. No problem, BHP does have a live correspondent on the scene. You might even know her.

Becca Brewster, a BHS grad, is studying abroad in England this semester. She promises a first-person account for hometown readers.

She’s waking up at 3 a.m. local time to catch a bus into London for the nuptials. If you think Barbara Walters, Katie Couric or one of those other big-name correspondents has the inside story, you'd be wrong.

Look for the BHP exclusive coming soon!

Thoughts and prayers
Finally, to all of our readers with friends and family in Alabama and other areas hit so brutally by Wednesday’s storms, know we’re thinking of them all. We got off lucky it seems. Let’s all do what we can to help those south and east of us that weren’t so lucky.
