Raptors, Bruins, Eagles all play at home on Thursday

Devin Robinson scored 15 points and Andy Moore sank a trio of 3-pointers as Ravenwood overwhelmed the new Summit High School team in Tuesday night's season-opener, 74-26.

Moore finished with 14 points, and Jonathan Coles and Zack Hodskins also hit treys for the Raptors.

A dozen players scored for RHS, who play host to West Creek in another Hall of Champions benefit double-header with the girls time on Thursday night. Tipoff is 6 p.m. for the Lady Raptors, followed by the boys game.

Joey Barnes, a 6-8 junior being counted on inside the paint this season, scored 8 points and Coles added 7.

"I was very happy with the team’s effort level and energy," Ravenwood Coach Patrick Whitlock said. "We need to improve defensively but I was very happy that we played well together and were able to get a lot of guys some experience.  We will have to play much better to beat West Creek on Thursday."

 

Ravenwood 64, Summit 33, girls

Junior guard Brandi Devore put up 14 points and also had nine steals as the Lady Raptors played visiting Summit, the new Williamson County High School.

Junior forward Lexi McKay followed right behind Devore with 11 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Colyn Springer made a pair of 3-point baskets and McKay had Ravenwood's other 3.

Senior Logan Hodskins, junior Erin Johnson, sophomore Bethany Cardente and Springer all finished with eight points, while senior Jayne Rice added seven. Johnson was 6 of 6 on free throws, and RHS shot 83% from the line as a team.

RHS jumped out to a 17-5 lead against the overmatched opponents, and defensively held Summit to 29% . The Lady Raptors get tested by West Creek in another home game Thursday.

Dickson County 53, Brentwood 52, boys

Junior forward Cody Shelton scored 18 points in the close loss for the Bruins, who will play Columbia in the team's home opener on Thursday night.

Brentwood's Jack Bautista hit a 3-point shot as time expired to cut the margin to a point. Dickson County took the lead on a 3-pointer around the 2-minute mark, and the Cougars stretched it to four points with two free throws with 3 1/2 seconds remaining.

BHS made nine shots behind the 3-point arc, while Dickson County hit seven (four by Caleb Tuck). Bautista hit three from long-range, while Shelton, Jack Montague and Elijah Gonzalez each had a pair of 3s.  

Brentwood 69, Dickson Co. 39, girls

Junior Paige Parker poured in 17 points and senior post player Halle Jarnagin netted 14 points in the opening game for the Lady Bruins in Dickson.

Brentwood led 15-7 after the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 35-11 at halftime.

Millie Tunnell scored 8 points and Olivia Shealy had 7. The Lady Bruins will face visiting Columbia in Thursday's double-header with the boys team.

Shelbyville 54, Brentwood Academy 49, girls

Senior three-sport star Caylyn Harvey scored 11 points including one of three BA 3-pointers in the season-opening loss at home to the Class AAA perennial contender Golden Eaglettes.

Hailey Pierson had eight points for Brentwood Academy in the balanced scoring attack. But the Lady Eagles gave up 24 points to Shelbyville's Kelsie Smith, who made a pair of 3s.

The BA girls squad plays Antioch at home at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by the Eagles boys team's season-opener against Centennial at 7:30 p.m.
