Brentwood High senior point guard Jack Montague, who has committed to play at Yale University, will miss both of the Bruins’ games on Friday and Saturday after stepping on an opposing cheerleader’s foot.

“Jack stepped on a BGA cheerleader’s foot after making a break-away layup early in the second quarter and had to leave the game,” Coach Dennis King said. “He’s got an inflamed tendon and won’t play this weekend for sure.  Hopefully, we’’ll get him back early next week.”

Battle Ground Academy Coach Len McNatt joked with Montague after the game “that he’s giving the girl the defensive player of the game,” King said.

BHS travels to Smyrna for Friday’s double-header at 6:30/8 p.m., then has a 6 p.m./7:30 p.m. twinbill Saturday at Belmont University’s Curb Center against Hunters Lane in a high school basketball showcase.

Montague already has had a problem with a bone on the outside of his foot over the last couple of years, King said. The Bruins (4-2) are already without 6-6 junior forward Cody Shelton (knee) and defensive stalwart Ryan Meachem (broken wrists) for 4-6 weeks.

In other basketball games, Ravenwood plays at home at 6 p.m./7:30 Friday against Siegel, and Brentwood Academy visits Cookeville in the Eagles’ last games before Christmas break.

HOCKEY: Bruins win ninth straight; Raptors also in action Friday

Brentwood (9-1) captured its ninth straight victory, 6-3 over Centennial on Wednesday night, since dropping the season-opener 7-1 to Pope John Paul II on Oct. 15. BHS, which avenged its loss Nov. 16 with a 4-3 victory over JPII, takes on Father Ryan at 6:40 p.m. Friday at A-Game.

Ravenwood (8-1), whose only loss is to Brentwood 4-1 on Nov. 4, plays Centennial at 8:10 p.m. Friday, also at A-Game. BHS and RHS are ranked 1-2 in the current GNASH Gold division standings, and meet again Jan. 6 at 6:40 p.m. at A-Game.

BOWLING: Ravenwood boys team falls in semifinals

The Raptors’ bowling season, the first under Coach Tim Bilbo, came to an end with a loss to Overton in Wednesday’s semifinal round at Franklin Lanes.
