Ravenwood bowling teams advance in district tournament
By CAROL STUART Brentwood Home Page Brentwood High School basketball teams have had a whole week without games heading into this week’s three-game schedule, and that break doesn’t necessarily give the Bruins boys team a boost after two key players went out with injury.

Junior 6-6 forward Cody Shelton tore his meniscus cartilage in his knee two days before the Beech game and underwent an arthroscopic procedure the next day. Ryan Meacham broke both his wrists on a nasty fall when fouled on a break-away layup.
Both are out 4-6 weeks. The BHS teams play host to Harpeth Hall girls and Battle Ground Academy boys Tuesday night, while visiting Smyrna on Friday and playing Hunters Lane on Saturday in a basketball showcase at Belmont University.
“Not playing is a double edged sword,” Brentwood boys coach Dennis King said. “We got meaningful repetitions on all phases of our game, and were able to scout important opponents, but I’d rather be playing and getting into mid-season game shape rather than risk getting rusty from lack of quality competition.”
Andy Schumpert, a 6-3 sophomore wing player who also plays football for the Bruins, has moved into Shelton’s spot.
“He had the most similar skill set to Cody, and he has responded very well,” King said.
Asa Duvall, who transferred from Brentwood Academy, started in Meachem’s spot when he became eligible one day before the Beech game.
The Bruins (3-2) opened the season with a one-point defeat at Dickson County on Nov. 15 (led by Shelton’s 18 points), then won at home against Columbia two days later (12 points from Shelton). The BHS boys team then dropped another one-point loss vs. Beech on Nov. 22, before wins over Franklin County and Lebanon.
“The two one-point losses were very difficult to take, to be honest,” King said. “Even though we did not have our football guys for Dickson, nor the injured guys for Beech, we feel that we could and should have won both of them,” King said.
The Lady Bruins, meanwhile, have been undefeated so far this season. The girls game tips off Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Ravenwood plays a double-header at Smyrna, while Brentwood Academy teams visit neighboring Christ Presbyterian in a twinbill.
