Ravenwood boys fall by only one point, but girls win on homecoming

Brentwood Academy's boys and girls basketball teams both swept Battle Ground Academy, while Hillsboro handed both Brentwood High squads their first district loss on Friday night. Ravenwood split its double-header for homecoming against Centennial, with the girls winning but the boys falling by just a point.

Hillsboro 53, Brentwood 48, boys

The Bruins' 13-game win streak came to an end when the Burros rallied from a 26-23 halftime deficit to lead 33-29 after the third quarter.

Senior point guard Jack Montague poured in 21 points, hitting a trio of 3-pointers for BHS (19-5, 6-1 11-AAA), which last lost on Dec. 16. Asa Duvall scored seven including a pair of 3s.

Brentwood, retaining its first-place position with two weeks left, plays a non-district game at home Monday against Overton and then hosts Franklin next Friday.

Anotrian Moore led Hillsboro with 14 points, and had three other players score nine apiece -- Dezon Dozier, Williams Fleming and Brian Wilson.

Hillsboro 45, Brentwood 39, girls

The Burros rallied from a 23-14 halftime deficit to overtake the Lady Bruins for first place in District 11-AAA.

Halle Jarnagin paced BHS with 12 points and the team's only 3-pointer. Millie Tunnell and Olivia Shealy scored seven each, and Sara Jarnagin added six points.

Angel Rambert's 14 points led Hillsboro, while Nicole Bowers chipped in with 11 and Araya Flemings scored 10.

Centennial 52, Ravenwood 51, boys

The Raptors' slump continued when Scottie Flemming sank a free throw with 15 seconds left for Centennial, sending RHS to its fifth straight defeat.

Senior point guard Devin Robinson scored 20 points and hit a 3-pointer in the loss, while Mike McAllister had two 3s and finished with 12 points.

Ravenwood (13-7, 2-5) took a 31-27 lead into halftime but was outscored 17-11 in the third period. Matt Pond had a game-high 21 points for the Cougars (9-13, 1-6), who entered the game winless in District 11-AAA action.

The Raptors have a home district game with Independence on Tuesday, then step out of league play for games at Cane Ridge on Thursday and against Nashville Central Christian on Friday.

Ravenwood 45, Centennial 23, girls

Lexi McKay netted 19 points and Jayne Rice scored 12 points to help the Lady Raptors improve to 12-8, 3-4 in District 11-AAA.

Eight different RHS players scored, including Colyn Springer who had six points on two 3-pointers. Brandi Devore hit Ravenwood's other 3-pointer.

Brentwood Academy 63, BGA 44, boys

Josh Lester had 14 points and Danny McGrath scored 13 for the Eagles, who broke open a close game with a 29-18 advantage in the final quarter.

It was BA's fifth straight victory since starting region competition with an overtime loss at Ensworth. Brentwood Academy will play host to Ensworth on Tuesday night, has another home game with McCallie next Friday, then visits BGA for the rematch next Saturday.

McGrath sank two 3-pointers, while Lester and Al Thompson had one each for BA (10-8, 5-1). Will Haynie scored nine and D'montre Wade added eight.

Gavin Shellnut's 12 points lead the Wildcats (13-7, 3-4), all coming behind the arc.

Brentwood Academy 47, BGA 32, girls

The Lady Eagles held Battle Ground Academy to two points in the first quarter and again in the third to take a commanding 38-18 lead.

Jai Murphy led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points for Brentwood Academy, which evened its region record to 3-3 and improved to 10-9 overall.

Hailey Pierson also scored nine, and Taylor McFarland's eight points included a pair of treys. Caylyn Harvey and India Hall added seven and six, respectively.

Mary Hannah Winstead's 12 points, which included a pair of treys, was tops for the Lady Wildcats.
