Raptors end 5-game district skid; Lady Raptors fall; Bruins earn sweep

The Brentwood Academy boys basketball team led by a point at halftime but missed an opportunity to move into a tie atop the region by falling to Ensworth on Tuesday night.

Ravenwood's boys ended a five-game losing streak by beating visiting Independence, but the Lady Raptors dropped a district game. BA's girls team also lost to Ensworth, while Brentwood High's teams had the night off after non-district wins against Overton on Monday night.

Ensworth 74, Brentwood Academy 50, boys

BA took a 28-27 halftime lead, but the Tigers outscored the host Eagles 22-9 in the third quarter on their way to a sweep of Brentwood Academy this season.

D'montre Wade, with 13 points, was the only scorer in double figures for BA in its first loss since the region opener in OT against Ensworth. Josh Lester score eight points, Al Thompson and Graham Waldrop added seven points apiece, and Danny McGrath and Tyler Emery had six points each.

Corn Elder poured in 17 points and hit one of six 3-pointers by EHS. Nathan Watkins scored 13 points, Keshonn Carter had 12 with a trey, and Andrew Fleming sank two 3s and finished with 10 points.

Ravenwood 64,
Independence 49, boys

Senior point guard Devin Robinson had a game-high 26 points to help the host Raptors break a five-game skid in District 11-AAA action.

Juniod post player Joey Barnes and senior guard Andy Moore each contributed 12 points in the victory, and Andy Moore hit the only RHS 3-pointer. Mike McAllister chipped in with another eight points.

Ravenwood jumped out to a 21-13 advantage at the half, then put the Eagles away with a 14-9 run in the third quarter. Deion Sims' 11 points and Josh Murray's 10 points were tops for IHS, which bucketed six 3s.

Ensworth 52, Brentwood Academy 23, girls

Hailey Pierson scored seven points and Taylor McFarland six in the Eagles' second loss of the season to DII-AA power Ensworth.

Christina Slay, a sophomore on the Tigers' state championship two years ago, had 15 points for EHS. Kennesha Nichols scored 12 and Blaire Smith 10.

Independence 33, Ravenwood 28, girls

RHS, led by Lexi McKay's 10 points, led 24-19 going into the final quarter but Independence scored 10 more points than the Lady Raptors down the stretch.

Hannah Winters' 10 points were high for IHS.

 

Monday's games

Brentwood High 59, Overton 51, boys

Jack Montague's 16 points paced the Bruins in a victory that followed the first BHS district loss on Friday night.

Cole Harrison had 13 points and Will Jones 12 for Brentwood.

Overton hit seven 3-pointers, four of them by Cory Roberson. Ivan Alsup scored 14, while Shaquille Davis and Roberson chipped in with 12 apiece.

Brentwood High 63, Overton 38, girls

Junior Paige Parker hit four of the Lady Bruins' seven 3-pointers and finished with 21 points as BHS bounced back from its first district defeat.

Millie Tunnell also had a big game offensively with 16 points for Brentwood. Overton was led by Consuella Buford-Spencer's 18 points including a pair of treys.
