Rodgers' good but Brentwood responsible for Packers' win
Rodgers' good but Brentwood responsible for Packers' win | BrentWord, Brentwood Home Page, Susan Leathers, brentwood tn news, Green Bay Packers, Super Bowl, Scott Wells, Marianne Clark, Towne Centre Theatre, History Bowl, Anne Dunn

If any Pittsburgh Steelers fans out there are wondering how the Green Bay Packers won Sunday’s Super Bowl, the answer’s easy: The Packers had a Brentwood connection, of course.

The Packer’s big No. 63 center – Scott Wells – is a Brentwood Academy alum who was No. 64 for the Eagles. He graduated from BA in 1999.

And what did you think about the commercials? I only saw the ones aired during the first half but have to admit, none really blew me away. My favorites were Bud Light’s “Hack Job” takeoff on all the HGTV and TLC home renovation shows, the Darth Vader kid for Volkswagen, and LivingSocial.com's spot on the diverse products and services you can get discounts on via the website. Feel free to share your favorites in the comments section below.

History will buzz back to life
Learned of yet another great connection that BHP helped facilitate in the community – and another great example of how people help each other out here.

City Commissioner Anne Dunn who is helping spearhead the city’s inaugural History Bowl on Thursday shared this:

“Last Friday, Susan Moriarty, a local resident and director for the YMCA Center for Civic Engagement, called.  It seems her sister had been reading about the History Bowl in (Brentwood Home Page) and thought we might need a professional buzzer system to use in the game.  She knew Susan had access to such a system that she uses with the YMCA Model UN quiz bowl.   Susan followed through and offered to loan it to us.   She took time out of her Saturday to show us how to set it up and operate it.

“We had searched high and low for something like this and came up empty handed so we were thrilled with the chance to get this and add a really nice professional touch to the game.

“Another great example of Brentwood people coming to the rescue when needed.”

The History Bowl will pit a team of Advanced Placement U.S. History Students from Brentwood High against their contemporaries at Ravenwood. It starts at 7 p.m. in the city’s Municipal Building’s board room and will also be aired on Channel 19.

If you’re a history buff like me, plan to be there or tune in. I can’t wait to see how much I know. Then again, maybe I don’t want to see how much I’ve forgotten.

Big heart slows big talent down
We’re sending get well greetings to Marianne Clark, one of my favorite local actresses and theater supporters, who had to step aside from the title role in Towne Centre Theatre’s A Trip to Bountiful after she experienced a little recent heart trouble.

All reports are that she’s doing well, and that the show is going on without a hitch – well, except for its opening being delayed a week.

A complete story on the production which opens Thursday is in the works. The Academy Award-winning 'Bountiful' was one of my favorite films. I can’t wait to see the stage version.
