Ravenwood High School had five girls runners and four boys competitors finish in the top 10 and make All-District as both teams won the recent meet with District 11-AAA schools last week.

Three of the All-District runners also broke school records recently as the RHS teams excelled at the Jesse Owens Cross Country Classic in Alabama.

Erika Peoples set a new 5K girls standard for Ravenwood with a blistering 18:27 at the Owens race, and Dabney Chitwood also broke the old mark with a 19:25. The Raptors competed in the Elite division against teams from all over the Southeast, and the varsity girls finished third out of 39 schools and remained undefeated against schools from Tennessee.

In the Jesse Owens’ Elite boys race, senior Conley Chitwood ran 15:59 for a new school record in the extremely fast field, while sophomore Quinn Avirom (16:44) became only the second Raptor to break 17 minutes.

Daniel Lowe and Trevor Phillips joined Conley Chitwood and Avirom as All-District runners for the RHS boys team. In the Jesse Owens race, Lowe, Paine Leffler and Phillips all turned in personal records, helping the boys take 21st place in an unbelievably fast field.

Abby Finnegan, Sabrina Florey and Rachel Spinden also earned All-District recognition along with Peoples and Dabney Chitwood. In the Owens 5K, Spinden and Madison Lefler also broke 20 minutes, and freshman Florey rounded out the scoring for the Lady Raptors.

In the JV races, Eleanor Leffler, Tracey Kenmuir, Autumn Goodwin, Hannah Belcher, and Caitlin McKeown scored for the girls and Derek Cressman, John Lenderman, Nik Westin, Richard Guiry, and Jun Sung Park scored for the boys.

Both teams, coached by Peter Mueller, are competing Thursday at the Williamson County Championship meet in Franklin. In the district race, the Lady Raptors won with 28 points to runner-up Franklin’s 55 points, while the Ravenwood boys scored 30 points for the victory to 50 by second-place Independence.
