Brentwood Home Page news reports The Ravenwood and Brentwood Academy wrestling teams will compete in the TSSAA state high school wrestling dual championships on Friday and Saturday at the Williamson County Ag Expo Center in Franklin.
Ravenwood opens against Jefferson County at 5:30 p.m. Friday and a victory would advance the Raptors into the 7:30 p.m. AAA quarterfinal against the Knoxville West-Germantown Houston winner. Semifinals are at 1 p.m. Saturday, and finals at 7:30 p.m.
"I think on paper that we got a good draw," RHS Coach Josh Peck said. "However, one cannot overlook anyone that has made it this far."
Brentwood Academy takes on state’s top-ranked Baylor at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Division II quarterfinals, with the winner advancing into the 7:30 p.m. semis against defending champ Father Ryan or St. Benedict. Finals are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Ravenwood is 37-1 in duals this year after repeating as regional dual champions last weekend. The Raptors are led by seniors Bradley Butters, Ryan Churchill, Michael Gray, Chris Bowens, Robert Veal, Robin Porter, Cody Stewart, Harrison Hawthorne and Dylan Yeager.
“It was only our second title but it was two in a row,” Peck said. “As for the state duals, it is an entirely new season once they start and the only prediction I could give is that our team will give it everything we have. I don't even know what we are currently ranked and I'd rather not know. There are a lot of good teams there.”
RHS, ranked eighth in this week’s state coaches’ poll, is also in the same side of the draw with three-time defending champion Bradley Central, Maryville, Dickson County and Mt. Juliet. The other teams who qualified in Class AAA are top-seeded Science Hill, Blackman, Clarksville, Heritage, No. 2-ranked Soddy-Daisy, Cordova, Hardin Valley and Independence.
Consolation matches for AAA teams with one loss are at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. (the latter for third place) Saturday.
In DII, consolation matches are at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. (for third place) Saturday.
Tickets are $8 for Friday and $10 for Saturday.
Brentwood wrestling coach Joe Blair is heading up the tournament. The individual state tournament is Feb. 17-19 also at the Ag. Expo Center.
RHS and BHS wrestlers will try to qualify for state individual competition at the 6-AAA regional tourney Feb. 11-12 at Overton.
