The Ravenwood Forensics Team won the Overall Sweepstakes at the Carson-Newman Smokey Mountain Invitational. The forensics competition that drew 24 schools from throughout the Southeast took place Feb. 25-27 in Gatlinburg.
Ravenwood also placed first in Overall Individual Events. The Raptors competed in 36 quarterfinal events; 24 semifinals events and 12 final rounds.
Three members of Brentwood High’s forensic team also competed in the Invitational. Marshall Cottrell and Maulin Shah won the championship in Public Forum Debate. They went undefeated and finished with a 10-0 record for the tournament.
Shah also won the second place speaker award and Marshall won the fifth place speaker award in Public Forum Debate.
Brentwood won the third place sweepstakes award for debate based solely on Cottrell and Shah’s accomplishments.
In other events, Shah was a semifinalist in Impromptu Speaking. Natalie Bennie was a quarterfinalist in Prose Interpretation and a quarterfinalist in Declamation.
