Kirby will also be AD at new high school
Brentwood Home Page news reports Ravenwood head baseball coach Chad Kirby will be moving to Summit High next year to serve as athletic director and baseball coach, Williamson County Schools announced.
Williamson County’s newest high will open in the Spring Hill-Thompson's Station area in August 2011, and Kirby will join the faculty during the summer, said WCS spokesperson Carol Birdsong.
Kirby, the Raptors' coach since 2008, has led RHS to a state tournament berth, a region title and two district championships. He is also an assistant football coach at Ravenwood and was defensive coordinator in 2005 and '06 when the Raptors were 5A state champs and runners-up, respectively.
“I’m excited about starting a new athletic program,” Kirby said. “I know Summit High School will have great community support, and I look forward to building long lasting traditions for which the citizens of Spring Hill and Thompson’s Station will be proud.”
Kirby, a Lewisburg, Tenn., native, played on back-to-back state championship teams at Marshall County High in 1993 and '94. He then was a member of three conference championship teams at Middle Tennessee State University under Coach Steve Peterson.
He and his wife Kellee reside in Spring Hill with their two children Mackenzee and Jace.
“I’m thrilled to have a quality teacher, coach and person joining the Summit High family,” said Summit Principal Dr. Charles Farmer. “Chad’s credentials speak for themselves. I’m confident that Coach Kirby’s leadership will help make not only Summit High athletics, but the total school program, successful in the years to come.”
Kirby also coached girls and boys basketball and was the head football coach and athletic director at Mundy’s Mill Middle School in Jonesboro, Ga. He has also been an assistant baseball coach at Gordon College.
