Raptors shoot for another third place after losing to No. 4 team

Ravenwood High School's wrestling team will have to wait another year to shoot for another state duals tournament title, but can still match last season's third-place finish.

The Raptors defeated Germantown 47-19 in the first round on Friday at the Williamson County Ag Expo Center, but later lost in the quarterfinals to the state's fourth-ranked team, Cleveland, 36-27. RHS now drops into the 11 a.m. losers bracket match, where the team can try to earn its way to the third-place team match.

Region runner-up Independence defeated Maryville 58-2 in the first round and advanced to Saturday's 1 p.m. semifinals by beating Cordova 36-35 in the quarterfinals.

Jacob Freeman (132) and Grant Jones (160) won the only bouts for Ravenwood in the match against Cleveland.

Evan Long (195) and Marvin Shotts (220) got the Raptors off to a good start against Germantown in the opener, and Kyle Kuehnhold (120) won on a pin in just 1:21. Robin Klingensmith (126) and Taylor Warren (138) also had decisions, while Bowen Reau (285) and Jacob Freeman (132) won by forfeit.

Tanner Reynolds (152) pinned his Germantown opponent, and Turner Jones (170) and Seth Hoffman (182) earned technical falls.

Brentwood Academy lost its only match of the night, 56-13 to Father Ryan, in the Division II quarterfinals. The Eagles now wrestle in an 11 a.m. consolation bracket match.

Defending state champion Amos Mason pinned his Irish foe at 220, while heavyweight Tucker York won 5-4 and Danny Maloney took a major decision.  Towler McClellan added a 5-3 victory at 170.
