Brentwood Home Page news reports
The first official step in the process to approve new zones for Williamson County Schools begins tonight at the Board of Education's regularly scheduled meeting. The board will hear a formal presentation by EduLog, the company contracted to design the plan, at its 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Administrative Complex.

About 15 percent of Williamson County School population will be impacted in some fashion if the school zones presented to the board last Thursday night and posted on the WCS website Friday morning are passed as drawn.

The meeting will offer the first opportunity for the public to formally comment on the proposal. Tonight's meeting will be broadcast live on WC-TV which is found on Comcast Channel 3. It will be replayed the Tuesday as well.

In the Brentwood area, most of the elementary schools would experience at least some boundary changes as would the middle schools. The new plan for Ravenwood High School is similar to the one proposed last November, with students along the Carothers Boulevard corridor being rezoned to Centennial High School. Students in the southeast portion of RHS’ current zone would go to Page.

Following tonight's school board meeting, three public meetings will be held this week so parents can learn specifics about the proposed changes by an Edulog representative, and visit with school board members and WCS staff. The meetings will be held at Franklin High School on Tuesday; Independence High School on Wednesday, and Centennial High School on Thursday.

The Edulog presentations are scheduled at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the schools' auditorium/multi-purpose rooms. School Board and staff members will be available between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the cafeterias and computer labs.

In addition, parents will have the opportunity to provide input through a phone survey that will be conducted for all parents on Thursday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. For those parents who do not participate at that time, a follow-up survey will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26. The results of the survey will be given to the School Board.

The Board has scheduled a special called meeting for Monday, Sept. 27 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Administrative Complex to discuss the zoning proposal. That meeting will also be televised on WC-TV.

Information on the plan is available at www.wcs.edu. Any county resident can enter their address to see where they would be zoned if the plan is approved.
