BHS, BA squads split in holiday events on the road

Devin Robinson sank two free throws with only two seconds remaining to help lift Ravenwood to a 44-40 victory over visiting Smyrna on Friday night and improve to 9-1.

Robinson finished with 15 points, while Joey Barnes scored 13 and J.P. Leiderbach had 10 points for the Raptors.

Smyrna (4-6) led 7-6 after a quarter, but Ravenwood outscored the Bulldogs 14-4 in the second quarter for a 20-11 advantage. The game see-sawed again in the third period, with RHS going into the final quarter ahead just 32-30.

The Raptors boys team is off until Wednesday, Dec. 28 at the Beech tournament, at 8:30 p.m. against the host Buccaneers.

Ravenwood 50, Smyrna 49, girls

Senior Logan Hodskins' free throw with 30 seconds left was the Lady Raptors' first lead of the game in the one-point victory over the visiting Lady Bulldogs.

Lexi McKay's 16 points were tops for RHS (7-3), while Brandi Devore hit four 3s and finished with 13 points. Erin Johnson chipped in with 11 points including a pair of treys.

Sisters Kayla Hunt, with 16 points and a 3-pointer, and Treasure Hunt, who had 12 points and a pair of 3s, led the scoring for Smyrna (3-7).

The Lady Raptors have a break from the action until 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Smith County.

Blackman 44, Brentwood High 39, boys

Senior point guard Jack Montague scored 20 points in his return after injuring his ankle over a week ago, but the host Bruins (6-4) scored another heart-breaking loss.

BHS, playing in a classic at Independence, now plays Lavergne (6-1) at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the IHS event.

Brentwood scored only two points in the first quarter, falling behind 11-2 to Blackman (8-1) but couldn't make up enough ground the next three quarters.

Brentwood 50, Stewart County 28, girls

Senior Sara Jarnagin and junior Paige Parker scored 12 points apiece as the Lady Bruins (9-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season with a big victory over Stewart County.

Senior Halle Jarnagin netted 11 points and hit a 3-pointer for BHS, while Parker also hit a pair of treys in the game played at Gallatin High.

BHS now travels to Independence for a girls game at 3 p.m. Saturday against Lavergne.

Cane Ridge 43, Brentwood Academy 32, boys

Tyler Emery scored 12 points including a 3-pointer as the Eagles (2-5) lost to Cane Ridge (2-10) in a classic at Hendersonville High.

Danny McGarth added seven points and D'Montre Wade had five points, with each also hitting a 3-point shot for BA.

Brentwood Academy now takes on East Ridge at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hendersonville's gym.

Brentwood Academy 47, Shelbyville 29, girls

Hailey Pierson led the Lady Eagles with 13 points and Caylyn Harvey scored nine as BA (6-4) avenged a season-opening loss to Shelbyville (6-6), in the Mt. Juliet tournament.

Jai Murphy had eight points and Ali Smith seven in the BA balanced attack.

Brentwood Academy's girls team will challenge Blackman (11-1) at 3:15 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Juliet's gym. Blackman was unbeaten before falling to the host Bears 44-38 Friday night.
