Wow! It is the one word to describe this year’s Homecoming festivities.  This year the Ravenwood Homecoming Parade formed at Crockett Park.  Students at Crockett Elementary and Woodland Middle School cheered on the parade participants. The parade route proceeds through Somerset into Oakhall exiting on Raintree Parkway.

The fifth graders from Kenrose Elementary walked as a group to line the parkway. The students added enthusiasm to the crowd as they cheered and performed the “wave.”

The 2009 floats reflected how much time and effort was put forth by the students. The designs this year were outstanding.  The winner was announced during half time festivities.  The seniors pulled out a win, with a very close sophomore second place.

Next up on the schedule was the annual powder puff game between senior and juniors. The junior girls were out to prove they were not “worthless” as the senior boys chanted. Maybe it was the extra support of the junior “Cheer Boys?”  School spirit was abundant from both groups of ladies and their football player coaches took the task seriously.  A lot of heart went in to the game.

My objectivity as a journalist must now be questioned, but I just have to tell all of Brentwood that Ravenwood faculty and students rock! This was my second year to attend the pep rally and I would love to see a video replay of the faculty dance. Leading the way was the faculty band and Ravenwood’s very own Michael Jackson impersonator.

Even Coach Tom Schuman got into the moon-walking action.  Coach, don’t give up your day job just yet. What brought the house down was the performance by faculty staff of “Thriller.” The creativity of the zombie costumes and remarkable Jacksonesque dance steps surprised the entire student body.

“I would be glad to predict a win by a half a point,”  said Coach Schuman.  “Emotions run high and you never want to be beaten at your Homecoming. This week is all about balance; having fun but getting serious at game time because if the boys lose, then the fun is over and what comes next will not be fun.”

Go get ‘em Raptors!  Thank you Raptor students, faculty and parents; you all have much to be proud of! And for the record, I’m proud to be a member of the Ravenwood Family.
